Why RCJ?

We want to enrich your life.  This may sound like a lofty ambition for a joinery company but we believe that your home environment has an underappreciated impact on the quality of your life, and when your home is designed for you and how you live, your life will become better, smoother, and easier.

We strive to enrich your life in three different ways. Firstly with the functionality of your joinery.  We tailor every detail to you: in order to do this we will visit your home to see the space, we will discuss how you live and what you want from your joinery.  We will have suggestions but ultimately we are guided by you.  For this reason, all our joinery is completely bespoke, handmade in our Rye workshop.  We consider it crucial to future-proof our designs by building in flexibility because then, as your needs change, or even as technology advances, your joinery can be adapted to suit those new circumstances.  The second way we want to enrich your life is with the aesthetic look and style of the joinery - the exterior needs to work with the rest of the room or home, whether with clean modern lines or a more traditional look.  We hone in on the details, which elevates our joinery.  Finally, we are friendly bunch and we want you to enjoy working with us – we are always at the end of the phone and pride ourselves on the great relationships we have with our clients.  We are straightforward to deal with and will do what we say we will.  Many of the interior designers we work with are long-term collaborators, who have become friends, and many of our private clients return to us again and again, and we love catching up however long it has been!

Please know that we adore building sites! We find them full of potential, hope and optimism, because they are the opportunity to create your perfect space.  Granted they are often dusty and noisy, but you have to break some eggs to make an omelette!  Please do get in touch if you have a smaller project in mind - we do work on projects of all scales.

We make wardrobes, bookcases, media units, alcove cabinets, toy storage, vanity units and under stairs storage.  If you have a underutilised space or tricky spot and you need a creative solution, let us help you.

Bespoke joinery is a sustainable choice because you are commissioning a piece of joinery designed for you, which is incredibly well made, and that will last.  We have helped clients take our joinery with them when they move home, and will also gladly update the layout of your joinery if your needs have changed.  We are very aware of our environmental impact and strive to minimise this as much as possible in our workshop and studio.  When travelling around London we will take public transport where feasible.  We plan our fitting schedules carefully to reduce the number of journeys from the workshop to London.

RCJ was established in 1978 and we are proud of our history.  We have been in our current workshop in Rye since 2009 but in early 2024 will be making the move to a new, larger space just outside Rye.  We are also be investing in new machinery and tools.
